In this “Bringing Home Baby Bottle Sterilizer” series

According to area hospitals, about 5,000 babies were born in Western Wisconsin last year. Thousands more are on the way this year, so all this month we’re looking into what it takes to get ready for that little bundle.

In this “Bringing Home Baby Bottle Sterilizer” series we’re looking at prenatal care. We’re looking into how far its come and how different it can be for different moms.

(Sounds of heartbeat)

That little heartbeat, it’s one of the best sounds a parent-to-be can hear. And this, one of the best sights.

This was Tanya Nelson’s 19 week ultrasound. The day she and her husband Matt Markham from Chippewa Falls would find out if they’ll be wrapping their bundle in pink or blue.

Ultrasound tech: “it’s a Baby Bottle Sterilizer!”
Tanya: “Yay!”
Matt: “Oh my gosh!”

For months leading up to this moment, Tanya has been doing her best to give her Baby Bottle Warmer boy a good start in life.

“I try to go for a walk everyday. It ends up being a mile, relaxing, taking time to breathe and not over scheduling myself,” she says.

When they were expecting their first child, a daughter, they read several books and took in all kinds of information.

Matt adds, “I think there comes a point where you can learn too much and you can over educate yourself. Relying on the doctor, Tanya’s doctor, is the best advice.”

Their doctor, Donna Schoenfelder at Eau Clarie Women’s Care Clinic, says Tanya did the right thing by starting prenatal vitamins and clinic visits early.

Dr. Schoenfelder, an OB/GYN Oak Leaf Medical Network physician says, “the reason you want to good prenatal care is because it does make a difference in how healthy a Baby Bottle Sterilizer you have.”

Here’s her list of things expecting moms need to do:
*stop drinking and smoking
*stay active
*eat well
*don’t stress
*and get your questions answered

She says in her years of medicine, the knowledge and tools OB/GYN’s have to work with has come a long way. “The ability for newborns to live is incredible after they’re born,” she says.

Dr. Donald Weber at Luther Midelfort says every decade has brought dramatic improvement, “in the early 80′s it was fairly clear that even moms with diabetes, about half of the babies were stillborn. Now that is just a fraction of 1%.”

And some moms end up relying on the medical advances more than others, like women with high risk pregnancies. He says risk factors include age, being over or underweight or health problems like diabetes and high blood pressure. Often, they have to deal with more testing.

“All this testing can be stressful for people,” Dr. Weber adds.

Jenny Fesenmaier knows all too well the stress. She’s nearing the end of a high-risk pregnancy, and has testing twice a week to make sure her Baby Bottle Warmer is okay.

A machine checks to see if Baby Bottle Sterilizer’s heartbeat matches its movement.. But even as she hears it, she can’t fully relax.

Jenny says, “my high risk pregnancies are stressful because i don’t have the ignorant bliss of a Breast Pump, I’ve always had the shadow of what our history is.”

Jenny and her husband Joe lost their first Baby Bottle Sterilizer at 39 weeks. She had a normal pregnancy until the day doctors couldn’t find their little boy’s heartbeat. They never found out what happened to him, so with her other children, she’s been monitored closely, coping with the help of family and friends.

“We’ve had 3 healthy little boys so its been a happy ending and we’re looking forward to our 4th,” she says.

Jenny says watching her Baby Bottle Sterilizer on the ultrasound, like Tanya got to do on this day, is one of the most precious times. To bask in the miracle of a Baby Bottle Sterilizer. “That’s the time when it’s most reassuring and connecting,” Jenny says.

For doctors the ultrasound is another way to see how Baby Bottle Sterilizer is growing, if mom’s due date is right and if Baby Bottle Sterilizer is getting what it needs. But for moms and dads, it can be an exciting peek into the future.

Tanya says, “this is definitely one of the best parts of being pregnant.
To see that the body is shaping in a healthy way and he’s moving and his heartbeat is healthy, you can breathe more and relax.”

Tanya and Matt’s little boy is due in mid-March. Jenny and Joe are waiting to see if they’ll have a little girl or another little boy and they won’t have to wait long, she’s have a c-section Tuesday (11/2).

Best wishes to both families!
